
Call for MPTA FY2026 Board Nominations
The Michigan Public Transit Association would like to encourage any interested members to consider making a nomination to the MPTA’s Board of Directors, a group of leaders that provides an invaluable service to Michigan transit.
Per the MPTA’s bylaws, the MPTA’s Officers and Directors are elected at the association’s annual meeting, which will take place this year on August 19 during the Michigan Public Transportation Conference at Crystal Mountain Resort.
The MPTA’s Board of Directors comprises 16 members:
- Three officers: the President, Vice President, and Secretary/Treasurer
- Eleven at-large directors representing both urban and rural transit systems
- One ex-officio director representing associate members
- The immediate Past-President of the association also automatically holds a seat

All FY2026 board members will serve one-year terms (renewable) concurrent with the MPTA’s membership year beginning October 1st, 2025.
MPTA Board Duties
- Meet monthly (regular meeting time is the 2nd Thursday of each month at 10am) in Lansing and/or virtually
- Provide direction through development and implementation of strategic plans
- Review and approval of the annual budget and regular financial oversight, including monthly and audited statements
- Review and approval of proposed policy priorities and other significant policy statements
- Approval of new membership applications
- Assist in membership and sponsor development
- Participation in special workgroups to meet identified needs
Ideal Candidates:
- Have experience and/or responsibility for issues impacting the broader transit industry
- Have shown active participation in MPTA committees or programs
- Are available to serve on an active governing board and committed to advancing shared goals
- Represent diverse geographies, types of transit systems, and personal / professional backgrounds
We encourage members to submit self-nominations as well as nominations of others.
All candidates – including current board members – must return a nomination form by 5:00pm on Friday, July 4 to be considered. The Board-appointed Nominating Committee will review all materials and announce a nominations slate by Friday, July 18.
